The Satellite Performance Analysis Team or SPAT assesses the condition of TOPEX/Poseidon to ensure its ability to function properly.

The most critical period for the SPAT was during the assessment phase. At that time all systems and sensors on the spacecraft were thoroughly tested for operational readiness.

During the operational phase, the SPAT is responsible for designing the orbit maneuvers, developing spacecraft sequence requirements for nominal operations and responding to anomalous events. The team also manages spacecraft consumables, and continuously monitors TOPEX/Poseidon's health and performance to ensure proper instrument conditions.
